Episode 250 Show Notes:
Well that was tense for a while, wasn’t it? The Golden State Warriors were able to hold on to their double-digit lead this time and won Game 2 of the NBA Finals defeating the Boston Celtics 107-88 to tie the series at 1-1 headed back to Boston. With a slowish start filled with missed layups and some dazed remnant of Game 1, the W’s eventually were able to learn from some of their mistakes and blow out the Celts. Specifically, he discusses Stephen Curry’s continued determination, Draymond Green’s trash-talking intimidation, Andrew Wiggins embracing the moment, Jordan Poole finally (hopefully?) joining the series, Gary Payton II’s much needed return, Kevon Looney making the easy buckets, Klay Thompson’s continued struggles, the W’s defensive adjustments, and the return of the focus they need to try to take homecourt advantage back. But the biggest question after this game is can the W’s win a war of attrition against these Celtics IF it comes down to it?

yo what up welcome to another episode of the
oakland warriors podcast i’m patrick flying solo

0:00:12.480,0:00:21.520
so the warriors they evened up the series 107 88
beating the boston celtics in game two at chase

0:00:21.520,0:00:32.400
center and man that game was very tense tense
from the start i think it was tense until the

0:00:32.400,0:00:38.160
celtics early in the fourth pulled their starters
their main players and put in a bunch of subs

0:00:38.160,0:00:45.120
and bench dudes because you could tell that the
warriors were still a little bit shook to start

0:00:45.120,0:00:55.920
there was like a palpable uh thickness in the air
like steph looked tense clay looked stiff draymond

0:00:55.920,0:01:04.800
looked like he was on edge and it started out
like oh this is a continuation of game one the

0:01:04.800,0:01:10.880
celtics they have confidence they found the rhythm
tatum hit a couple shots jaylen brown started off

0:01:10.880,0:01:16.080
hot as hell and the warriors were missing shots
that got down what like eight points or something

0:01:16.080,0:01:25.360
and as a seasoned basketball fan basketball
watcher as you are you know that every team

0:01:25.360,0:01:32.480
usually starts out with some kind of run right
the warriors they got back into it but it was just

0:01:32.480,0:01:40.080
such a back and forth game you know no one could
really really get any separation for a while

0:01:40.080,0:01:43.120
and the warriors they just weren’t
shooting well they were missing so

0:01:44.000,0:01:48.240
many layups they were getting to the cup a little
bit better they were missing on fast breaks

0:01:48.960,0:01:55.280
they were missing on dump offs all that stuff
i gotta give a shout out to andrew wiggins who

0:01:55.280,0:02:00.800
for a while in this game until maybe the third
quarter or something when poole started hitting

0:02:00.800,0:02:06.640
a few shots andrew wiggins was their second best
offensive player you know on a night when the

0:02:06.640,0:02:12.080
warriors overall did not shoot very well andrew
wiggins was suppressing the issue he was putting

0:02:12.080,0:02:17.040
pressure on the rim he was going for rebounds
going for second chance shots those things were

0:02:17.040,0:02:22.880
huge the one thing about andrew wiggins which
i’ve said in the past past couple years since

0:02:22.880,0:02:29.280
he’s been on the team is that he doesn’t have the
best touch off the glass around the basket and we

0:02:29.280,0:02:35.840
saw that a lot in this one like he would go strong
which i applaud that aggression is what we want

0:02:35.840,0:02:43.840
more than anything but sometimes like he just
hits it too hard off the glass the opposite is

0:02:43.840,0:02:48.560
draymond green who usually once he gets to the
glass he can actually lay it up pretty softly

0:02:48.560,0:02:53.600
even with a full head of steam another dude who
does it well is gary payton in the second that guy

0:02:53.600,0:02:58.640
all season long has proven to have great touch
around the basket and he did that tonight as well

0:02:58.640,0:03:04.880
but like a bunch of people were missing layups
and it was like oh man is this going to be one

0:03:04.880,0:03:10.960
of those kinds of games that first game we all
know like it left such a bad taste in our mouths

0:03:10.960,0:03:17.760
and i think just the last couple days it was like
wow scratching your head being like what’s going

0:03:17.760,0:03:22.960
to happen in this one which warriors team is going
to show up are the celtics really going to just

0:03:22.960,0:03:28.000
steamroll them and even though it felt that
way at first like i give the warriors props

0:03:28.000,0:03:34.560
for continuing to fight and battle the one
thing that i said i was texting a bunch of

0:03:34.560,0:03:39.600
folks during the game i texted aaron in toronto
i was like yo man like in the second quarter i

0:03:39.600,0:03:46.000
was like i don’t think the warriors can win a
war of attrition i think they need an explosion

0:03:46.000,0:03:51.600
and they need to run away with this one a little
bit because if it’s a game of attrition and it’s

0:03:51.600,0:03:56.880
just going back and forth you’re just trying to
wear the other team down and pull out at the end

0:03:57.600,0:04:04.400
i felt like the way the celtics play i
felt like that’s a game that especially

0:04:04.400,0:04:10.080
with the celtics having won the first game the
way they did i felt like in game two if it ended

0:04:10.080,0:04:16.400
up that way i felt like the celtics could have
definitely taken that one luckily the warriors

0:04:16.400,0:04:22.640
they didn’t play well and also the celtics they
did not shoot as well so by halftime the warriors

0:04:22.640,0:04:28.320
had a two-point lead which was great and it was
like okay come on give us that third quarter

0:04:28.320,0:04:36.960
explosion that we know they have in them that we
saw a little bit in game one and thankfully they

0:04:36.960,0:04:43.680
did in the third quarter the warriors outscored
the celtics 35 to 14 and jordan poole capped it

0:04:43.680,0:04:50.480
off with a buzzer beater three which was basically
a back breaker the celtics had coached he pulled

0:04:50.480,0:04:55.840
his starters if not at the beginning of the fourth
within a couple minutes if it was not the start so

0:04:56.560,0:05:03.360
it was great to see the warriors just bust out
and have somebody else besides steph give them

0:05:03.360,0:05:13.040
something because i said before the first game you
know you need clay or jordan pool to go off to win

0:05:13.040,0:05:19.200
this series or to win any given game and neither
of them did that in game one and in this one

0:05:19.200,0:05:24.560
both of them were struggling until poole got a
couple shots off in the third and really really

0:05:24.560,0:05:31.360
started looking a little bit like himself a little
bit more that swagger was coming out i mean that

0:05:31.360,0:05:38.160
that buzzer beater you know that was like a
big relief you know you feel like that tension

0:05:38.160,0:05:45.200
just kind of dissipate a little bit you saw smiles
you saw celebrations you saw like clay jumping off

0:05:45.200,0:05:50.880
the bench i mean i rewound that about five or ten
times clay jumping off the bench andrew wiggins

0:05:50.880,0:05:57.600
you know fist pump which i love steph smiling and
giving jordan pool a huge hug and jordan pool kind

0:05:57.600,0:06:03.840
of you know given giving his guys a look after
he hit it and that’s what you didn’t see from him

0:06:03.840,0:06:11.680
for six quarters of the series so far maybe six
and a half so i hope that that means that jordan

0:06:11.680,0:06:18.720
poole is in this series finally like mentally
physically emotionally all that stuff because now

0:06:18.720,0:06:24.960
he has to take it on the road and play in boston
and it’s going to be tougher jordan poole didn’t

0:06:24.960,0:06:31.120
play in boston in the first celtics warriors
matchup back in november or december because

0:06:31.120,0:06:36.240
he got coven he was stuck in a hotel in boston
when the warriors went home after that game

0:06:36.240,0:06:42.960
they won that game but jordan poole was stuck
in a hotel for a week a week and a half i mean

0:06:42.960,0:06:48.400
i don’t know but this is going to be a big
test for him and hopefully he continues to

0:06:48.400,0:06:54.080
at least just give them something like yes if
they go off great but like give them something

0:06:54.080,0:07:01.840
you know like if both of them can give something
on the road then i like our chances but if it was

0:07:01.840,0:07:06.800
like the first six quarters of the series when
neither of them is giving much of anything at

0:07:06.800,0:07:13.280
all then that’s gonna make it even even rougher
a lot of the stuff that we saw in the first game

0:07:13.280,0:07:19.920
did not happen in game two you know on this group
text uh my friend jose has been on this show

0:07:19.920,0:07:25.520
he was like you know the celtics supporting cast
is not going to shoot as well as they did in the

0:07:25.520,0:07:30.720
first and to me like that’s definitely going to be
the case because they shot lights out but to me it

0:07:30.720,0:07:36.640
was like if you leave them open and give them a
chance and the celtics mitigate them shooting a

0:07:36.640,0:07:42.000
little bit worse with jason tatum having a better
game then it might kind of average out and they’ll

0:07:42.000,0:07:47.680
still be up there and score so like the warriors
did a better job covering those guys even though

0:07:47.680,0:07:52.720
they still got the celtics still got a bunch of
open threes but if you look at who hurt them in

0:07:52.720,0:07:58.480
the first game al horford was only one for four
didn’t shoot any threes mark is smart one for six

0:07:58.480,0:08:04.480
oh for three from three only two points both those
guys only had two points derek white four for 13

0:08:04.480,0:08:11.120
two for four from three minus 17 on the night
only 12 points but 12 points on 13 shots so i’ll

0:08:11.120,0:08:18.480
take that right the idea after game one was like
give jason tatum a few more shots don’t sell out

0:08:18.480,0:08:23.200
on him in the paint on drives so he can just
like drive and kick driving kick to open dudes

0:08:23.760,0:08:30.080
and then that’ll give that’ll take the rest of the
guys out of the game and tatum here what 8 for 19

0:08:30.080,0:08:36.320
minus 36 28 points i mean that’s fine you know
that’s not like a john marant 40 piece or luca

0:08:36.320,0:08:41.120
doncic 40 piece i’ll take that that’s just a
guy having a good game it’s not otherworldly

0:08:41.120,0:08:47.040
so i could live with that jalen brown he hit
what his first three shots his first three three

0:08:47.040,0:08:52.320
pointers and that’s when you were like oh boy is
he gonna keep shooting this way but like he came

0:08:52.320,0:09:00.000
down to earth big time only five for 17 from the
field 17 points minus 10 3 for nine from three

0:09:00.000,0:09:07.760
ultimately and for the warriors you know draymond
green he was what two for 12 in game one i applaud

0:09:07.760,0:09:14.000
him for taking the shots in game one you gotta you
gotta take those shots but in this one he did not

0:09:14.640,0:09:19.840
there were a few open threes where he like pumped
as if he was going to but he’s like no no he

0:09:19.840,0:09:25.600
passed it off which was always the smarter wiser
thing to do you played 35 minutes two for three

0:09:25.600,0:09:34.160
from the field only three shots okay and only one
of them was a three pointer five for seven from

0:09:34.160,0:09:39.520
the line which is better than he shot last time
five boards seven assists nine points plus seven

0:09:39.520,0:09:46.160
so like that’s huge so that’s another trend from
the last game that we didn’t see he pulled back

0:09:46.160,0:09:50.400
on his shooting he passed the ball around he
got it to other guys and again even though the

0:09:50.400,0:09:55.840
warriors didn’t shoot well you want the ball
in other dude’s hands when it comes down to it

0:09:55.840,0:10:01.200
drake can hit some shots sometimes but like
after that two for 12 you knew that he had to

0:10:01.200,0:10:08.240
bring that shot total down and another thing about
draymond like you know he was active verbally you

0:10:08.240,0:10:14.160
know pulling some tricks out of his bag locking
up and kind of being that smack talking pest

0:10:14.160,0:10:20.080
to you know he was talking to jason tatum early
on he got into it with jaylen brown their two best

0:10:20.080,0:10:27.040
players he got into with grant williams and you
know he got an early tech and there was that one

0:10:27.040,0:10:32.320
play with jaylen brown where they both ended up
on the floor and you know the broadcasters talking

0:10:32.320,0:10:38.640
it’s like normal game maybe get double text i
appreciate the fact that the officials did not

0:10:38.640,0:10:43.920
decide the game on a ticky tack technical if it
was like a big time technical and you had to like

0:10:43.920,0:10:48.880
really really separate dudes that’s one thing
you know like sometimes you just have to make

0:10:48.880,0:10:55.760
that call but in this case it was a playoff game
it’s the finals it’s tense you do not throw out

0:10:55.760,0:11:02.160
the second most important warriors player over
that because at that point you maybe decide the

0:11:02.160,0:11:06.960
series you know if the warriors lose this game
it’s kind of over right sure it could be done

0:11:06.960,0:11:13.360
but like you lose two games at home go down o2 on
the road to boston and i don’t know i mean that’s

0:11:13.360,0:11:18.000
that’s pretty pretty impossible to come back from
especially if it’s another punch in the stomach

0:11:18.000,0:11:24.320
you know so he was good and i’m super thankful
that we got someone like draymond because i

0:11:24.320,0:11:28.480
mean you look at the rest of the warriors team
the dudes in the rotation there’s nobody else

0:11:28.480,0:11:34.240
who would do that sometimes clay talks but he’s
not talking when he’s missing every single shot

0:11:34.240,0:11:40.400
and also it’s just not inherently in his nature
so having draymond getting up in people’s faces

0:11:40.400,0:11:45.120
like putting hands on people like locking them
up really really just trying to get into their

0:11:45.120,0:11:49.920
heads as much as possible i’ll be honest at first
i was like oh man when he’s trying this stuff out

0:11:49.920,0:11:55.920
on tatum i was like okay okay he’s getting
himself up but like this feels like kind of

0:11:57.680,0:12:01.440
i mean steph himself said they need
to play this game of desperation

0:12:01.440,0:12:07.760
so to me you know when dre has to like get to
that level and you see it that much that overtly

0:12:07.760,0:12:14.320
i was like he is going like desperation you
know because that feels like when you tried

0:12:14.320,0:12:20.400
everything else you got to pull out all the tricks
and you did that you know he got a foul on tatum

0:12:20.400,0:12:24.880
he got in jaylen brown’s head greg williams i
mean you know i don’t worry about him too much

0:12:24.880,0:12:32.000
klay thompson man like i said 30 minutes four for
19 one for eight from three 11 points it’s rough

0:12:32.000,0:12:36.720
it’s rough seeing him out there like forcing
shots we know that you know jaylen brown is a

0:12:36.720,0:12:43.200
tough matchup for him when clay’s on offense and
bottom line like the celtics defense is just good

0:12:43.840,0:12:50.000
it’s good they are good at getting out on guys
and they’re taller and their reach is longer than

0:12:50.000,0:12:56.000
a lot of teams that they’ve played so far so it’s
messing with clay and you can tell that he is just

0:12:56.000,0:13:01.920
trying to find rhythm steve kerr left him in with
the celtics subs out on the court left him in for

0:13:01.920,0:13:08.080
a chunk of time in the fourth see if he could just
get some shots to go in and unfortunately it did

0:13:08.080,0:13:15.440
not in the western conference finals somebody put
out a stat that clay is actually shooting pretty

0:13:15.440,0:13:21.040
well overall in the playoffs he was like shooting
40 from three but that’s not really the issue

0:13:21.040,0:13:27.200
right the issue is that he will have a game where
he is just hot as hell and then he’ll have games

0:13:27.200,0:13:32.080
like this where he’s just completely cold and
doesn’t give you much of anything especially

0:13:32.080,0:13:36.720
when he’s not hitting shots so it’s not about
the overall percentage from every given game

0:13:37.280,0:13:42.880
total it’s about like these instances and i
still believe in clay you know i’ve always

0:13:42.880,0:13:47.520
said i think he’ll be better next year after a
summer of working out and kind of like mentally

0:13:47.520,0:13:53.200
decompressing from this whirlwind of a journey
since january since it came back to the team

0:13:53.200,0:13:59.200
hopefully a change of scenery will help him
honestly hopefully a crowd an aggressive angry

0:13:59.840,0:14:05.600
crowd from the celtics fans hopefully that’ll
help him find his shot i do think he’ll have

0:14:05.600,0:14:10.480
a couple of breakout games my buddy vuban who
has been also been on the show a bunch in the

0:14:10.480,0:14:17.760
group text he was like they don’t call him game
two clay which is 100 true right hopefully clay

0:14:17.760,0:14:24.480
comes solid comes correct in games that like are
close-out games right if it’s a game five if it’s

0:14:24.480,0:14:30.400
a game six if it’s a game seven who knows you just
have to have faith that clay will find his because

0:14:30.400,0:14:34.640
they’re going to need him no matter what somehow
some way and then there was steph of course he

0:14:34.640,0:14:42.000
played 32 minutes and was 9 for 21 5 for 12 from
three six for seven from the free throw line six

0:14:42.000,0:14:51.360
boards four assists three steals plus 24 29 points
now you know at the beginning of the series i said

0:14:51.360,0:14:57.840
that there were three things that would be key
to the warriors winning the finals right one was

0:14:58.640,0:15:05.280
turnovers winning the turnover battle i said keep
it between 10 and 12 and they had 12 whereas the

0:15:05.280,0:15:14.320
celtics had 18. so check that box off health was
the next thing and we know that andre was out but

0:15:14.320,0:15:19.840
overall they were healthy and more importantly
they got gary payton the second back and what he

0:15:19.840,0:15:29.680
brings and then lastly was steph curry being the
best player on the floor and tonight he was that

0:15:29.680,0:15:36.720
so they hit all those three check boxes in this
one and obviously there’s other factors but to me

0:15:36.720,0:15:44.320
those are the three keys and they nailed it here
but overall again you saw steph aggressive i mean

0:15:44.320,0:15:51.360
he really wants this title you know and you know
he’s thinking about what this means for the haters

0:15:51.360,0:15:58.160
for his legacy and just being able to win i mean
at this stage in his career he wants more titles

0:15:58.160,0:16:04.720
than lebron he can get more titles than lebron
if he gets his fourth he ties lebron you know

0:16:04.720,0:16:11.040
and to me obviously the warriors in the future
after the season have a better shot of winning

0:16:11.760,0:16:16.560
another title or more more than a shot than lebron
has with the lakers i mean if you go somewhere

0:16:16.560,0:16:22.400
else if he bails on them that’s a whole nother
story but as of now get on staff so steph was

0:16:22.960,0:16:27.680
aggressive i mean you know he missed some
shots that were ones that you hoped that he

0:16:27.680,0:16:34.480
would make but five for 12 ain’t too bad and
9 21. you know he could have been better but

0:16:34.480,0:16:39.040
he’s just got to keep staying aggressive and
kerr was probably willing to let him play

0:16:39.600,0:16:46.240
a ton of minutes but thankfully the blowout you
know kept him to only 32 so that’s that’s huge

0:16:46.240,0:16:52.640
for his legs going forward i mean across
the board draymond 35 wiggins 31 looney 21

0:16:52.640,0:16:58.080
staff 32 clay 30. so you know those are all
positives and the fact that gary paid in the

0:16:58.080,0:17:03.520
second could give you 25. that’s solid you know i
mean he had a busted elbow so luckily he was able

0:17:03.520,0:17:08.960
to keep up his conditioning while he was out are

0:17:54.800,0:18:01.760
kavon looney that dude is rock solid i expect him
to get every rebound that comes his way now it’s

0:18:01.760,0:18:07.520
crazy 21 minutes six for six did great in terms
of like putting the ball in the basket simply on

0:18:07.520,0:18:14.800
those dump offs and and uh put backs seven boards
plus 24 12 points three steals i mean he’s just

0:18:14.800,0:18:19.200
dependable let’s think back to the regular season
when you know people would kick him out the ball

0:18:19.760,0:18:25.120
and he couldn’t do anything with it granted he
still has those moments but i think what the key

0:18:25.120,0:18:30.960
is with looney is that he’s getting dump offs
right under the basket one step away from the

0:18:30.960,0:18:36.720
basket they’re not feeding him like where he has
to put the ball on the floor do any moves take

0:18:36.720,0:18:42.720
any further steps where a defender can catch up to
him and rise up higher than him and block his shot

0:18:42.720,0:18:48.720
or just snuff him out right the way looney is
getting the ball is just right there he just

0:18:48.720,0:18:53.040
gets the ball and just goes straight up you know
what i mean he’s not getting it 10 feet out he’s

0:18:53.040,0:18:59.040
not getting it even like a few further feet out so
i think that’s an important thing and that’s what

0:18:59.040,0:19:05.120
the celtics are giving the warriors so good on
them finding it and good on him for hitting those

0:19:05.120,0:19:09.440
they’re gonna need him you know when you don’t
have a big athletic center we don’t have like a

0:19:09.440,0:19:15.440
healthy james wiseman out there who you just lob
the ball up to having looney be dependable at

0:19:15.440,0:19:20.560
this point is really really important just don’t
give him the ball 15 feet away from the basket the

0:19:20.560,0:19:26.160
return of gary payton ii that was really massive
we heard before the game that andre iguodala was

0:19:26.160,0:19:32.160
out with a with a bum knee and that’s too bad
that sucks you know but with gary payton coming

0:19:32.160,0:19:38.880
back i mean obviously i’ll take gary payton over
andre vidalla at this point peyton gives you youth

0:19:39.520,0:19:45.440
he gives you less rust he gives you more rhythm
even though he’s been out for a little over a

0:19:45.440,0:19:51.520
month and he has chemistry with all these guys way
more than andre has right now you know even with

0:19:51.520,0:19:57.600
the core guys even with steph clay and draymond
you know what i mean so it’s good it’s very

0:19:57.600,0:20:03.920
inspiring as my friend mike rosen says the dude
was three for three and everybody was worried

0:20:03.920,0:20:09.680
about whether or not he could actually shoot
since he broke the elbow on his shooting arm and

0:20:09.680,0:20:15.600
he missed two free throws right out the gate and
i was like oh man and he missed bad but they were

0:20:15.600,0:20:20.480
kind of online which is all that you could ask
for so maybe just like the touch the rhythm is

0:20:20.480,0:20:25.120
a little bit off but he hit a big three in the
corner in front of the celtics bench turned back

0:20:25.120,0:20:29.760
and looked at them i don’t know what they said
but definitely something and i think that was huge

0:20:29.760,0:20:36.400
that was huge for his confidence for the warriors
confidence for the coaching staff’s confidence and

0:20:36.400,0:20:41.920
just to be like hey you know celtics i could i can
hit this shot you know like i’m not playing with a

0:20:41.920,0:20:46.480
cast on or anything like that and like i said just
having him on the court as a defensive presence

0:20:46.480,0:20:54.000
who is pesky annoying you know no one else on the
warriors besides draymond is willing to be pesky

0:20:54.000,0:21:00.160
and annoying hands on somebody’s like stomach
or chest the whole time dead ball plays you know

0:21:00.160,0:21:04.560
like in bounds plays he’s just in somebody’s face
constantly just annoying it’s the stuff you saw

0:21:04.560,0:21:09.360
him do to john moran so that was huge and like i
said gary payton the second is one guy you can get

0:21:09.360,0:21:14.000
him the ball whether you pass it to him or whether
he gets it off a rebound he’s the guy that if he

0:21:14.000,0:21:20.560
gets it under the basket he can rise up quickly
and put it in great touch and just a very very

0:21:20.560,0:21:25.680
fast jumper right we know he can get up really
high and we know he’s explosive like that but

0:21:25.680,0:21:29.920
he’s just a quick jumper you know what i mean
he can get up there faster than most people it

0:21:29.920,0:21:35.440
allows him to just do his thing because not many
people are going to block him you know he’s got

0:21:35.440,0:21:40.800
good instincts down there and for a dude who’s 6’3
that’s uh that’s that’s that’s pretty impressive

0:21:40.800,0:21:46.000
and then of course there’s never be eliza a guy
who only got garbage minutes in game one good

0:21:46.000,0:21:51.360
job by steve kerr to insert him into the game for
some meaningful minutes only played 11 minutes but

0:21:52.000,0:22:00.720
was three for four five boards six points and one
steal he played his part you know he was a guy

0:22:00.720,0:22:06.400
that was on the bench got a lot of dnp’s during
the playoffs lately because he couldn’t really

0:22:06.400,0:22:11.840
play him against some of these more athletic teams
but definitely stiffer found something there saw

0:22:11.840,0:22:18.000
something the coaching staff about inserting him
and just having that size that ability to score

0:22:18.000,0:22:25.280
and pass so it’s a nice wrinkle and you know
credit to bialisa for staying game ready i mean

0:22:25.280,0:22:29.360
obviously that was never a question he’s been a
professional all season throughout the playoffs

0:22:29.360,0:22:37.600
etc and obviously he also sees this as his best
chance of getting a ring and then auto porter jr

0:22:37.600,0:22:43.840
15 minutes only took one shot he hit it it was a
three-pointer only three boards but he had three

0:22:43.840,0:22:52.400
steals and was plus 24. so a solid play from him
and i will not take that dude for granted ever

0:22:53.120,0:22:58.160
ever you know it was interesting the warriors got
into the bonus they were in the bonus with about

0:22:58.160,0:23:05.520
six and a half minutes left in the third quarter
and it was like oh dang you know attack the basket

0:23:05.520,0:23:11.360
attack the basket and one of the frustrating
things about what clay did was like he he hoisted

0:23:11.360,0:23:18.400
uh at least two or three questionable shots for
a guy who is not hot and is not unconscious right

0:23:18.400,0:23:22.000
there was one where he got the ball from
bialitz and he was just around the wing or

0:23:22.000,0:23:28.160
on the side near the corner and it was almost
like a turnaround three-point shot he just pivoted

0:23:28.160,0:23:34.720
raised up and he clanked it and so like those are
the kinds of things with clay that regardless of

0:23:34.720,0:23:40.080
his overall percentages in the playoffs like
those are the things that in individual games

0:23:40.640,0:23:45.760
kind of that you have to look for not anything
against him you know we’ve seen him succeed

0:23:45.760,0:23:52.320
more times than not but those are the things when
a game is still close that can really really turn

0:23:52.320,0:23:57.840
the tide against a team as good as the celtics
when you’re as limited in opportunities because

0:23:57.840,0:24:02.800
in the first half you know the reason why i didn’t
think the warriors could win a game that was like

0:24:02.800,0:24:09.600
a war of attrition was because like the warriors
seemed to be working way harder for every single

0:24:09.600,0:24:15.040
shot and they weren’t getting open looks and they
were missing layups the celtics on the other hand

0:24:15.040,0:24:20.400
they felt like they were getting more open shots
so they really really the warriors did they really

0:24:20.400,0:24:27.120
really needed to break this one open and have
that kind of game obviously you know sure you want

0:24:27.120,0:24:33.600
those kinds of 20-point leads all the time but
really really really the way the game was going

0:24:33.600,0:24:38.880
if it were close if the warriors you know because
if you assume they don’t get a 20 point lead that

0:24:38.880,0:24:45.920
tension that like question in the back of your
minds their minds about whether or not they can

0:24:45.920,0:24:50.480
pull this off maybe it’s there you know especially
with the dudes who haven’t been here before

0:24:50.480,0:24:56.720
i think that um it was good and i’m curious to
see what happens next right what happens next like

0:24:56.720,0:25:02.720
are the warriors going to be able to really really
pull out a close game i mean it seems weird to say

0:25:02.720,0:25:07.120
because they’ve won close games you know they’ve
won close games in the playoffs during the season

0:25:07.120,0:25:13.920
whatever but not against this team and these
scenarios right if they had lost this game like

0:25:13.920,0:25:18.480
i said earlier it would have been really tough to
come back from o2 when you have to go back out on

0:25:18.480,0:25:23.600
the road for two games and you’re sitting there
kicking yourselves that man if only the warriors

0:25:23.600,0:25:28.480
had won that first game if they’d only held on to
that 12 point lead if only jordan poole could have

0:25:28.480,0:25:35.040
hit or clay thompson could have hit one or two big
threes to open the fourth quarter in game one then

0:25:35.040,0:25:44.160
we’d be sitting on a 2-0 lead right but honestly
it sucks but that’s what makes us the finals and

0:25:44.160,0:25:50.640
that’s what makes this dramatic and i don’t
know of a better team or a better group of guys

0:25:51.280,0:25:59.440
than steph clay draymond and steve kerr who are
more prepared for the adversity of something

0:25:59.440,0:26:04.640
like game one you know there’s some things that i
loved about this one obviously just like you know

0:26:04.640,0:26:12.320
the blowout them holding on to the lead and jordan
poole getting loose and the aggression overall and

0:26:12.320,0:26:19.920
just the the belief and the fortitude to to stick
with it and fight through this one but uh you know

0:26:19.920,0:26:26.480
the celtics could easily come back like we saw in
the heat series they had some off gains but then

0:26:26.480,0:26:31.600
ultimately they kept coming back coming back
coming back i’ll take a blood win by the warriors

0:26:31.600,0:26:38.480
every game but i want to see the warriors be able
to just like handle and control a close game you

0:26:38.480,0:26:43.920
know what i mean because in six quarters so far
whenever the warriors had some kind of lead even

0:26:43.920,0:26:49.920
if it was up to 10 or 12 or 15 it never felt out
of reach you know like there’s games where like

0:26:49.920,0:26:54.960
they can have a double-digit lead and it feels
like they’re in control i mean the celtics are a

0:26:54.960,0:26:59.040
great team so they’re not going to be out of it by
any stretch of imagination if they’re only down by

0:26:59.040,0:27:05.840
10 but the warriors never felt in control until
they blew out the celtics does that make sense

0:27:07.200,0:27:16.320
so there’s a long way to go but obviously this
is the start this is step one and thankfully they

0:27:16.880,0:27:24.480
flexed on this one and they broke it open and they
didn’t have to look back right they learned from

0:27:24.480,0:27:30.400
game one and they added to their lead at the
beginning of the fourth all the warriors got

0:27:30.400,0:27:36.800
to do is get one in boston right there’s only one
day off between games three and four so that might

0:27:36.800,0:27:41.040
change things too a little bit right there will
be less rest between those two games so it’ll

0:27:41.040,0:27:46.480
be interesting to see how this all plays out again
it’s a game of adjustments games a game and i know

0:27:46.480,0:27:52.400
the celtics are very well coached so can’t wait
to see what they do what they come up with and

0:27:52.400,0:27:58.480
you know props to the warriors for figuring out a
different game plan and rolling with it that’s why

0:27:58.480,0:28:04.800
they have three titles and six finals appearances
in eight years anyway it’s a good way to start off

0:28:04.800,0:28:10.080
the week and uh yeah that’s all i got for now
